Embedded Systems Engineer
May 2026 · presentIzoelektro d.o.o. · Full-time · Limbuš
Embedded software in C on Zephyr RTOS, plus hardware design, soldering and circuit testing for connected devices.
Embedded Systems Engineer · Maribor, Slovenia
I build firmware, electronics, and desktop tools that solve real problems.
01 Experience
From practical training to full-time engineering, with student leadership in parallel.
Izoelektro d.o.o. · Full-time · Limbuš
Embedded software in C on Zephyr RTOS, plus hardware design, soldering and circuit testing for connected devices.
FERI, University of Maribor
President of the 1st and 2nd Year Student Councils; member of the Faculty Student Council, Academic Assembly and quality committee.
OPTICUM d.o.o. · three stints, intern to project assistant
Came back three times. Most recently built the electrical setup of an exhibition bioreactor: LED control, component selection, BOM and system testing.
02 Selected work
Projects that started with a real annoyance and grew into focused products.
A private, offline PDF workspace with a real editor and local AI.
The opposite of a cloud upload box: editing, document tools and AI run entirely on your machine, so sensitive files stay yours.
Media compression that hits Discord’s upload limit without guesswork.
Drop in a clip and it finds the best quality that fits the cap: FFmpeg under the hood, Dear ImGui on top, optional NVENC when an NVIDIA GPU is available.
A garden controller where a microcontroller, not Linux, has the final say on safety.
A Raspberry Pi handles schedules, flow calibration and the 7-inch touch UI. An RP2040 owns the relays and trusts nothing: commands arrive over a CRC-framed serial protocol with session nonces and a 1 Hz heartbeat, and every run carries a hard deadline enforced in firmware. Crash, unplug or power loss on the Linux side, and the pump and all eight valves de-energize within 5 seconds. Needs no internet, but uses it when offered: VPN access, scoped API tokens for home automation, notifications when something trips. Next: an LLM watering assistant that sets schedules and answers questions in plain language.

A Discord bot that talks like one of your mates.
Feed it a few thousand messages of someone’s chat history and it works out how they write: the capitalisation, the slang, whether they fire off three short messages instead of one long one. The persona file it writes back is usually a bit uncanny.
An Arch-based distro built for exactly one machine: my laptop.
Boot a live KDE session, click through Calamares, done. Btrfs snapshots by default, so a broken update rolls back from the boot menu. Ships golob, a C++/Qt6 focus and tracking suite built as a daemon, a CLI and a Plasma widget.

04 About
Before university I finished the Technician of mechatronics programme in Velenje, with distinction. That foundation still shapes how I work: understand the system, measure what matters, make the result useful.
Today I study electrical engineering at FERI, University of Maribor, while working full-time at Izoelektro. After hours I work on my own projects and experiment with local LLMs.
